Parking lot Security

At some point you will have to park your vehicle either in the street or in a parking lot. Whenever you are in these public places you must be aware of your surroundings. You mostly hear about parking lot security around the holiday season but in my opinion you have to be aware of your surroundings all season long. It is very easy in our daily routine to be distracted with everyday happenings without knowing you are making yourself a target in a parking lot area.

When you are walking from and to your vehicle you must be alert at all times. You want to walk with a purpose into the establishment as persons wishing to do harm focus on a person who is distracted. If you have to make a call or send a text message wait until you are inside your car or the establishment to make your call. You have to be aware of other drivers as well when walking in the parking area.

When walking back and forth to your car use walkways whenever possible you do not want to walk between parked cars. You want to be as visible to other driving in the parking area. When you are walking to your car you should be ready to enter your vehicle with keys in hand.

Where you decide to park your vehicle is just as important as being alert when walking back to your vehicle. First always use good manners when parking your car, do not take up two parking spaces for example. This would expose your vehicle to possible damage. If you are able to find a parking space at the end next to a walkway or an island take this spot. However, avoid parking at the very end of a row as your vehicle could be damaged by turning traffic. Always park in a well illuminated area at night if possible park next to a light pole prior to exiting your vehicle make sure all your high value items are hidden. Lastly please make sure you lock your doors before exiting your vehicle.

If you notice any kind of suspicious activity make sure you are in a safe location and contact the authorities. Some establishments have a security officers working for them you can check see if they provide escorts to your vehicle at night.

I hope this was helpful as always please leave a comment below
