Summer Safety tips

We all want to head down to the beach or pool with our families to enjoy the summer. We want to get in the water to cool off enjoy the sun but here is when accidents can occur. Here in NJ we have had a few accidental drownings so I wanted to focus on some of the things you should keep in mind when you go swimming with friends or family. The purpose of going to the beach or pool is to have fun, to enjoy the weather and spend time with your family. So you want to take every opportunity to be safe while enjoying the summer activities.

When you decide to go swimming know your limits everyone has a certain skill level as a swimmer. Swimming is great excise but can be very exhausting you will be using muscles you don’t know you had in order to swim. So you will tire very quickly be mindful of where you are and how deep the water is when you are in the water. When you visit a pool or a beach swim in an area that is supervised by a life guard you should be able to see the life guard tower from any area in the water. If you can see them they can see you and if you happen to be a good swimmer then take a friend with you when you decide to go into deeper water which I do not recommend. This person you take with you on a swim will be able to call for help in case an accident occurs.  When you decide to dive in the water please be aware of how deep the water is before you dive. I would not recommend diving at all but if you must be sure you can see where you are diving.

Lastly make sure you are aware of the changes in the weather. The summer months are when the weather conditions can change very quickly if you see dark clouds, lighting it time to leave the water immediately. If you are at the beach along with the changes in weather come changes in the currents. If you get caught in a current so not fight the current instead swim parallel to the shore until you are clear of the current.

I hope this was helpful as always please leave a comment
