Cyber Security

The holiday season will be upon us soon we will be out shopping spending money going places during the holiday season. So we have to take steps to protect identity we are all potential victims and identity theft affects about 10 million Americans each year according to US news. You can significantly reduce your chances from identity theft by know the possible warning signs. Here are a few areas you can monitor to help protect your identity.

On a monthly basis or you can check online you should be checking your bank statements and credit cards for errors. The smallest thing on your report could be a sign you may have been a victim of identity theft. I have mentioned this before when an identity thief has a stolen credit card they will do a test purchase first to see of the sale transaction passes without an alert going out to the real card holder. This way this is a card they know they can use for big purchases later on.

You should be checking your credit report at least once a year. There are free credit report resources available to you so you can check your credit report. This is a sure way to know if you have been a victim if identity theft. This report will show every account you have open if you see an account you do not recognize you may want to report it to the proper authorities immediately.

The last one I would mention is an email from your creditors or bank stating there has been some suspicious activity on your account. Here you must be careful not to respond to the inquiry via email as this would be a phishing scam. I would contact your bank of creditors through reputable channels to report the email.

I hope this is helpful as always please leave a comment
